PARABLE OF THE DARNEL
Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

Parable of the Darnel (overview)

In Messiah Yahushuah’s parable of the darnel, a man sowed good seed in his field, but while he slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel (a weed) among the good seed.  Then, the wheat and the darnel sprouted and grew together.  The two grew together until the time of the harvest.  At the harvest, the darnel was burned, but the wheat was stored in the granary.

The field is the world.  The good seed is the Good News planted by the Son of Adam, Yahushuah Messiah.  The good seed grows up into sons of the Kingdom of Elohim.  The darnel (weeds) are sons of the wicked one, the devil.  The enemy sowed seeds of deceit and lawlessness among the good seeds of truth, obedience, and Good News sown by Yahushuah Messiah.  The deceit mixes with truth and creates a field (world) of mixed worshippers.  The good wheat that springs forth are true believers in Yahuah and Yahushuah.  The darnel are people who have been deceived by the works of the enemy and live lives of lawlessness, disobedient to the Commands of Yahuah.

What are the darnel seeds?

In the parable, the enemy sowed darnel seeds among the grain.  These ‘weed seeds’ are lies and deceit.  They are falsities mixed with the True Word, the Good News of Messiah Yahushuah.  The major religious systems of this world are full of beliefs, practices, and traditions that are not found in, based in, or even supported by Scripture.  Christianity has strayed far from the simplicity of the Scriptures—obedience to Torah and belief in Messiah Yahushuah.  The enemy of Yahuah sowed deceit and falsehood leading men to believe a lie rather than the truth.  Man believed the lie because they did not have a love of the truth but instead had pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thess. 2:10,11).  [The same is still true today: Many who are presented with the Truth will turn from it and continue in falsehood because the love of the Truth is not in them.  They take ‘pleasure’ in their unrighteousness.]

These ‘darnel seeds’ come in many forms.  Some main examples are:  sunday worship, easter, christmas, the symbol of the cross, the name jesus christ, removal of the true Hebrew Names of Elohim and Messiah, disobedience to Torah, and replacement theology (‘church’ replaces Israel).  None of these are supported by the Scriptures!

I encourage you to truly study your Scriptures—not just read, but study and meditate.  Use a concordance or index and find Scriptures relating to several topics in christianity.  Look up ‘Sabbath’ and read those Scriptures.  Find out what is the True Set-Apart day of worship.  Look up ‘sunday’ (if you can).  Look up ‘christmas’ and ‘easter.’  Look up ‘bible.’  It may come as a surprise to you, but many of these ‘christian’ words are nowhere to be found in Scripture.  After your Scripture study, find a good dictionary and set of encyclopedias (try your local library or internet).  Now look up these same words and find the ‘origins’ of these words  (christmas, easter, sunday, Sabbath, etc.)

In your research you will find many christian practices are not found in Scripture but instead have origins in paganism.  Early ‘church fathers’ (during the first few centuries after the time of Messiah) created a religious system called ‘christianity.’  This religion was created out of extreme anti-Semitism.  They despised Jews and everything remotely Hebrew, and therefore removed it from their belief system.  Several ‘Scriptural’ things were viewed as ‘Jewish’ things and removed.  These ‘church fathers’ distanced themselves from Jews and attempted to bring in more gentiles.  To bring in, or attract, gentiles, they merged pagan/gentile practices with True Worship.  Sun worshippers influenced the change in day of worship to the day of the sun (sunday).  Sun worshippers also influenced the change in the birth of Messiah to December 24th & 25th—the day of the sun god’s birthday festival.  Worshippers of the goddess of the dawn (also known as the goddess of fertility) influenced the change to easter—a sunday morning (dawn) celebration of resurrection (‘new birth’) with eggs, rabbits, and chickens (fertility symbols).  In the end: sunday replaced Sabbath; easter replaced Passover; christmas replaced Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles); pentecost replaced Shavuot (Feast of Weeks); jesus christ replaced Yahushuah; 'god' and 'lord' replaced Yahuah; gentile ‘church’ replaced Israel; the doctrine of ‘grace under jesus christ’ replaced obedience to Torah.  The list of compromises and merges with paganism goes on and on.  You’ll find many, many examples if you only SEEK the TRUTH!

All these changes were seeds of deceit and lawlessness.  In the end, they create worshippers of another—worshipping with false names, false beliefs, and false practices.  ‘Worshippers’ living in disobedience to the Commands of Yahuah.

Why were the seeds sown?

Since the beginning, the battle has been between Yahuah and the adversary.  The adversary desired the worship Elohim received and wanted to be Most High.  The adversary rebelled against Yahuah Elohim trying to take the place of Elohim (Is. 14:13,14).  Because of this, he was cast out of heaven and sent to the earth where he has attempted to form his own kingdom.  There is now a spiritual war between the two kingdoms:  the kingdom of Elohim and the kingdom of the adversary.  The fight is not to win land but to win souls!

In the book of Exodus chapter 1, the Hebrews became numerous in the land of Egypt.  Pharaoh was afraid the Hebrews would rebel against him and take over the land.  Therefore, he put the Hebrews in slavery.  The same concept applies to the parable of the darnel.  When Yahushuah came to earth, He made a way for His followers to enter the Kingdom of Elohim and empowered them to conquer the kingdom of the adversary.  Look at the commands Messiah gave His taught-ones after the resurrection:  make taught ones of all nations; immerse them in the Name of the Father, Son, and Set-Apart Spirit; teach them to guard all His commands; proclaim the Good News to every creature in all the world; cast out demons; speak in tongues; heal the sick; proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins in His Name to all nations (Matt. 28, Mark 16, Luke 24).

Through Yahushuah, in the power of the Set-Apart Spirit, the taught ones and all those who heard their words and believed, would enter the reign of Elohim and conquer the kingdom of the adversary.  If the taught ones went into all the earth, and everyone they taught obeyed the commands to proclaim the Good News of Yahushuah, then the Kingdom of Elohim would spread throughout the whole earth and conquer.  To prevent this from happening, to prevent his kingdom from falling, the adversary put people into ‘slavery.’  He sowed seeds of deceit, falsehood, and lawlessness into the True Belief.  Believers in Yahushuah were deceived.  They strayed from True Worship and began worshipping with more and more pagan influences.  The compromises and merges with paganism kept people from knowing the Truth and worshipping in Truth.  Keeping people from the Truth, kept them from the fullness of power in Yahushuah through the Set-Apart Spirit.  It kept them from entering the reign of Elohim.  If you’re not in the kingdom of Elohim, how could you fight for the kingdom and conquer the enemy.  The adversary sowed darnel, seeds of deceit, to keep his kingdom from being destroyed.  Only when we turn away from the deceit and accept the Truth do we enter the Kingdom of Elohim and become empowered to overcome the kingdom of the adversary.

What am I: wheat or darnel?

Examine yourself and determine if you worship in Truth or in falsehood.  Do you follow The Scriptures—worship on Shabbat; observe Passover, Shavuot, & Sukkot; exalt the Name of Yahuah; believe in Messiah and His true Name Yahushuah?  Or do you follow man’s doctrines and traditions: sunday worship, easter, christmas, pentecost, worship using only ‘lord’ and ‘god’, worship in the false name jesus christ?

Do you follow the Torah in obedience as Messiah Yahushuah did, or do you believe the doctrine that we are no longer obligated to obey the Law?  Do you believe Israel is the chosen nation of Elohim and all must be grafted into it as Scripture says, or do you believe the gentile ‘church’ replaces Israel?

If you follow Scriptures and obey the Commands of Elohim and Messiah—you are wheat.  At the time of the harvest, the Messengers of Yahuah will gather you into His storehouse.  If you do not follow the Scripture, but follow beliefs and practices of man that are not supported by Scripture, then you have been deceived, and you are darnel.  At the harvest, you will be gathered and thrown into ‘the furnace of fire—there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth’ (Matt. 13:42).

Can I change to become wheat?

Yes!  Many, many people in the world would be considered darnel because of the deceit sown by the enemy.  Yet, as long as we are alive, we still have a chance to become the good wheat that will be stored and protected in the granary of Yahuah.  Rev. 18:4—“Come out of her, My people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”  Yahuah is calling His people out of Babel (the dwelling place of demons—Rev. 18:2), just as He called His people out of Egypt.  Yahuah is calling His people out from the world and out of the world’s religious systems that are filled with the deceit of the enemy.  We must come out and return to Israel—the nation of Yahuah, His true worshippers who worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23, 24).  Yahuah is calling us to return to the ancient path—obedience to the Commands of Yah and belief in the Good News of Yahushuah.

Convert—to cause a change from one belief, view, or allegiance to another

To become good wheat sown by the Son of Adam, Yahushuah Messiah, we must convert.  Conversion requires two steps:  rejecting the false and accepting the truth.

Rejecting the false:  Pray to Yahuah and renounce all falsehood and deceit out of your life.  “I renounce all the evil works of the enemy, the serpent of old, and renounce all his deception out of my life.  I renounce the false messiah ‘jesus christ.’  I renounce the false spirit of jesus christ that comes with the false messiah.  I renounce the false teachings of the false messiah.  I renounce the traditions and practices of men that are not the truth of the Scriptures.  I repent of all the falsehood and deceit and ask for Your forgiveness, Yahuah.  I did not know.  Forgive me for my lack of knowledge.”

Accepting the truth:  “I believe in the True Names of Yahuah Elohim and Yahushuah Messiah.  I accept Yahuah, Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as my Elohim and Father.  I accept Yahushuah, the True Messiah, as my personal Savior and Deliverer.  I believe He died for my sins, was raised from the dead by the power of Yahuah, and is now seated at the right hand of YAH.  I will worship Yahuah, and Him only will I serve.  I ask You, Father, for the Set-Apart Spirit, my Helper and my Comforter, to come upon me in the Name of Yahushuah and guide me into all Truth.  I accept Your Torah and commit to walk obedience to Your Words.  I believe in Yahushuah Messiah and commit to walk in His ways.  Thank you YAH for your Truth, and thank You for Your guidance.  Praise Yah!  HalleluYAH!”
